Konkani writer Pundalik bags Gulab award

MARGAO, JULY 20 – Noted Konkani writer and activist, Pundalik Naik is the recipient of the prestigious Gulab Man of the Year 2007 Award, while the Sportsperson of the Year award was bagged by Chess child prodigy Ivana Furtado.
The awards instituted by Konkani magazine Gulab were awarded to the various recipients mostly from the field of tiatr at a glittering ceremony at the Gomant Vidya Niketan on Sunday.
Commissioner NRI Affairs, Eduardo Faleiro, who was the Chief guest, called for providing all facilities and schemes to Roman script on par with Devnagiri Konkani. He, however, strongly favoured primary education in Devnagiri script.
Minister for Water Resources Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Fr Concessao D’Silva, Fr Diego Fernandes, Tony Dias, Bishuth Themudo were amongst the host of dignitaries present at the packed GVN auditorium.
The winners of Gulab awards 2007 is as follows: Man of the Year Pundalik Naik , Gulab Writer of the year Soter Barreto, sportsperson of the year Ivana Furtado, Best writer Comedian Agostinho (Sir), Best Director Roseferns (Ami Goenkar Tumi Konn), Best musician Carlito Fernandes (Amkam Xanti Di), Best Actor Fermino Goes (Ami Goenkar Tumi Konn), Best Actress Felcy Rebello (Kiteak Ho Bazar Cholta), Best Actor in comedy role Comedian Selvy (Sir), best singer (male) Francis De Tuem, best singer (female) Roshan, Outstanding performance, child artiste Baby Rioma Menezes.
The Goan Review’s Personality of the Year 2007-08 is Romaldo Rodrigues.
Winners of Fr Freddy J Da Costa Memorial Trust’s Konkani literary competition held in May 2008 is as follows : Group A – first prize Prerna S Fernandes, second prize Claudia Gomes. Group B – First prize Delivia E D’Souza, second prize Shuelle C Dias.
Group C – First prize Slyvia Pinto, second prize Melisia Estibeiro.
